What I have:
1) Buffalo Linkstation Live, model number LS-CH1.0TL
2) I updated to firmware 1.07 (both steps 1 and 2 confirmed by NAS Navigator2)
3) I'm running windows XP, with a Linksys 160NL router. Ive been able to successfully connect several laptops and a couple of printers to the router, using wired and wiress options, so it appears the router is functioning properly.
4) The linksys router has a utility that recognized the drive on the network
4) Windows firewall is off and no other firewalls exist (as far as I know)
During the installation stage of the Linkstation. everything seemed to go fine, until it tried to map to a drive letter. That's when the error message appeared:"remote default share is missing".
NASNavigator shows the Linkstation has a IP address, the same subnet mask as the other network devices, a default gateway of 192.168.1.1, and "WORKGROUP" as the workgroup.
I've seen similar issues posted here, but those solutions don't seem to solve my issue. Lastly, when I input the ip address <\\192.168.1.106> ( or <LS-CHL016> )into Start -> Run, I get the error message "the network cannot be reached".
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my first time doing anything beyond a simple 2-3 computer network.
Logon to the interface of the LS using its IP in your browser => Shared Folders => Add. Add a new shared folder with name (eg share), description etc and click apply.
Then open My computer => Tools => Map network drive
Drive Letter: Z:
Folder: \\192.168.1.106\share
finish
I'v got exactly the same problem !
It seems it always come back with the windows xp !
I try with other windows and there is no probleme.
Try to get to it from the file and printer sharing window.
Start->Run->\\IP_ADDRESS_OF_NAS
Then try right clicking on a share and selecting "map network drive"
The error message is comming when we want to acces "Start->Run->\\IP_ADDRESS_OF_NAS"
So we can not right clicking on a share and selecting "map network drive" !
I have this same problem. I have called support and performed a force update to the firmware to no avail.
The device is opening in the NAS Navigator, but if I try to access the shared folder called 'share' Windows XP tells me the following message:
"The network path was not found."
It does this for any shareon the device.
My concern is that I had >500gb of data on the device that now appears to be lost as it is not accessible.
Any help is appreciated.
Still stuck with the same issue myself, but I've been working around it through USB network adapter.
It actually works on the same computer, that "fails to map network drive" even when connecting the LS
straight to the computer. That way you could at least rescue your data (without opening the unit & connecting
the hard drive elsewhere as a last resort).
Shame that nobody's found a cure for this.
Can you post your solution? I am not clear what you mean by USB Network interface.
Thanks.
Sure! though, it's not really a solution but an way-around-the-problem.
By USB network adapter, I meant a wireless USB inteface (I hope this would be approximate the right translation) such as this:
http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=334
I connect with that to my wireless router (the LS is plugged there), cause I could operate the LS
with my remote laptops through the router.
I needed to disable the cable connection on my XP desktop while working with the wireless.
Hope it helps somebody!
I have joined this club (unwillingly!). My XP machine works OK with my LS-CHL 1.0 (firmware rev 1.31) but my Windows 7 laptop won't recognize the shared folders. I can open the LS admin utility by entering the IP address on the Win7 machine but it won't find the shares or display folder contents. NAS Navigator finds the device OK but can't browse its content.
I have turned off the firewall and experimented with Norton settings to no avail. Any fresh ideas out there?
Have you tried changing the NTLM settings on your Win7 like the general FAQ explains?
I cannot believe it was this simple... :smileysurprised:
Thanku, thank u, thank u!!!
I am having the same issue. I have looked under the FAQ but I have Windows 7 Home premium and I can't follow those instructions. Any help would be apprecated. Thanks
Solved it!!! :smileyvery-happy: Go to http://www.ryanvictory.com/posts/automating-6to4-adapter-removal-in-windows/ . It's does d*mned adapters windows keeps making. I had as much as 300! Removed them all via the batch and voila my linkstation finally appeared! Hopefully this will help many of you because i know how much time is spent trying tot solve this d*mn problem. Good luck!
:smileysurprised: oh and 1 more thing voor 64-bit users. Read post 72 on the website. It is essential!
