: Backup multiple shared folders from LS520 to USB disk
: ChrisKnol October 29, 2017, 12:08:50 PM
I'm having trouble backing up my LS520 (2x 2Tb, sw version 4.13) to USB-disk. I can define one backup-job from one shared directory to the USB-disk. When I try to save a second one (different job-name, different shared directory as source, same target: "/device/homes/USB/usbdisk1/", I do get the message "Differential and incremental backups could not be configured simultaneously for the same folders".

The message appears regardless the backup-mode: full, diff, incr.

The backup-software should create a directory on the USB disk when backing up in diff and incr mode with the same name as the job-name: with my device, it doesn't (therefore the error message makes kind of sense  ::) ).

I've tried the USB-disk in NTFS, Ext3 and Ext4: all the same.

Would appreciate your ideas!

Chris.

Create a separate folder for each backup manually.

Thank you very much for your suggestion, I really do appreciate it!

I've tried it, but I was not succesful: the LS520 deleted all my manually created folders before backing up, it simply clears the whole USB disk before backing up... :-(

I've tried it with the USB disk in NTFS and Ext4 formats.

Hi,

We're experiencing the same issue on an LS520 too. We can't create multiple jobs as you get the above error, no matter what backup method you choose. Creating sub-folders on the USB drive is of no use as they're not visible in the source browser.

Basically this means we can only backup one share which is not a viable option.

I'm having the same issue, what's the solution, Buffalo?

1. to start multiple backups simultaniously you have to use timer at the same time
2. to use the same destination drive for multiple backups you have to use the mode full backup

be aware
buffalo will create folders without the name of the source in it

Sorry, but that's not a solution. There's a reason why we take incremental or differential backups, rather than full backups - it takes less time. And we need to be able to have me control on what's happening and where the backups end up. I have 3 shares on my NAS, one each for two  different users, and one common  share. I need to be able to take incremental/differential backups for all  these at dfferent times and to diffent destination folders on the attached usb. This is what I was led to believe on reading through the manual before purchase. If I knew it couldn't do this, I would probably have bought another NAS that is able to do it. Can't be too difficult to update the firmware so it can.

My LS220D is behaving the same way.  Has anyone found a solution to this?  I have the latest 1.75 firmware on the LS220D.
How to differentially backup more than one share to an external USB drive?  Thanks.

I also have this issue.  My "Manual" work-around for now is to schedule weekly events.  Then Manually edit the job for the other share.  Also - I might try to plug in multiple external USB drives via a hub. :)
Buffalo - Is there a fix in firmware for this yet?
