: RSync problem! No password???
: 1advancing October 31, 2016, 06:21:48 PM
Hey all, new to this forum and mainly signed up since I need this question answered! It is not most typical setup so not much answers online seems like.

Anyways the problem is that I am trying to backup to my Buffalo NAS LS420D (Version 1.81-0.03) using RSync. However I am only able to make it work if the "Remote Backup Password" is not set. If I put a password in and no matter if I try the admin/folder password or the one I put in the Remote Backup Password field then the RSync client fails to connect. But again if I leave it blank then it can connect fine but it can connect even if the folder has no security/password setup or no matter what the password is!
(Thoughts out-loud: Yes it is very unlikely someone will be attempting to connect by RSync to my IP and even less likely they will know the module path, however it still doesn't feel fully safe to leave it like that. Although honestly I am not sure, and maybe it is ok enough, I guess the question is if there are tools or command hackers can use to "scan" for module directories or use other methods to possible gain access?)

Does anyone know how to fix or make this work with a password? I am using BackupAssist as the client software.
