: LS-WX2.0TL/R1 failure after attempted firmware update
: bcdoyle48 January 12, 2016, 03:44:30 PM
About a week ago I noticed that the subject Link Station unit was no longer responding to the network.  Using the NAS Navigator, I was able to see the unit, but it told me that it was operating in 'Emergency Mode' and required a firmware update.  I followed the directions and downloaded the firmware and it appeared to load without a problem, but at the end of the process, Navigator could no longer find the drive.  I e-mailed Buffalo Tech and asked for a recovery process and was told to connect directly with the unit via Ethernet and rerun the firmware update process.  After having directly connected to the unit, changed the IP address of my laptop and turned off the firewall, I still could not connect to the unit.  The firmware software said it could not find the unit needing updating.

I then attempted to reset the unit by pressing and holding the Function button while restarting the unit until the Function Light began to blink, then letting go for five seconds before pressing it again for ten seconds at which time the drives spun up and the Power light began to blink.  However after about a minute, the Power light went out and the red Info/Error light began to blink six times in succession and I still could not contact the unit through a direct connection.

That is where I stand. If the unit is fried, I would still like to recover the data from one of the two hard drives. I was running a raid 1 configuration without encription, so I think it should be recoverable.  The unit contains older data and is mostly backed up on yet another Linkstation Unit I purchased about a year ago, but I would still like a copy of the information.

Any suggestions for recovering the data or resetting the unit would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bernie
