: 8 yrs. of data... gone
: D2theR February 21, 2015, 06:20:20 PM
I realize the best solution to a problem isn't to complain or point fingers but I am sorely disappointed with this company and its product. I recently purchased a Buffalo Linkstation LS421DE from a local computer parts store here in Ohio as a simple at home back-up solution and network sharing device. I got it home opened the box, took the harddrives out of my computer and installed them according to the directions that came in the box, and powered it on only to find out, it wipes ALL the data of the drives first! After reading a the directions a little more thoroughly I find small text (ironically print in bold) located on the 'AC Adapter' section of the large page that says "Original data saved on the added drive will be deleted...This seems a REALLY BAD place to put this.

I have 10 yrs. worth of data on these drives, personal files, from music recordings I've done with friends that have since passed away to photo's of loved ones that have passed as well, countless school documents that are now possibly gone forever. I realize now that I should have taken that all into account and I guess read the directions a little more attentively but at the same time why didn't Buffalo Technologies do that when they wrote the directions? It's not just one's and zero's that are being served up on these devices its our memories and lives. If anyone from this company can point me in the right direction of a data recovery program I can use to retrieve my life back, I'd be eternally grateful.

                                                         Thanks,
                                                             Dan Rerko

You can try Drivesavers. Having a buffalo product should save you 10% i believe but there pricey and no guarantee there going to get some or most or even all of your data. The position where the sticker is, isn't the best place I totally agree.

Me too!  >:( I am in a bad spot in life and had only my 200 GB of movies I downloaded over the years. I recently reached in my bag, pulled out my HD-PS32OU2-US 300 GB drive only to discover that the drive is not able to load the USB mass storage driver. I have tried on multiple computers and know it is the drive which went out. No warranty on this old drive but I knew it would happen on day. I just didn't have access to my other Buffalo drive which is in storage. I still will buy more Buffalo's in the future. I have had horrible experiences with Western Digital, Seagate, and off brand name drives. I sure wish I didn't have to solve these hard math questions to post.  >:(

You can simply google the math question and it will give you the answer. Also I would try 2 things. One you can take apart the drive and connect the drive to your computer and see if it works or 2, you can contact a data company to recover your data. not the best idea or cheapest idea but that is another option.

It also states that the disks will be deleted in the quick setup guide.

If both are bad disk, you need to consult a data recovering company for recovering your data. If you just want to recover the unit. You need to TFTP the unit. FYI this unit can handle 4tb drives. Not sure which ones will or wont work. Normal drives more of a chance. Nas drives, your taking a chance if it will or wont.
