: Audio dropouts streaming movies on WZR-600DHP
: xmxplxz March 24, 2014, 11:26:48 AM
New WZR-600DHP.
Audio drops every few minutes during movies. Video streaming is uninterrupted at HD quality.
ath0 will not set to 5GHz. Currently WiFi TV is connected to ath1 interface, which is running 5GHz. Both interfaces are set to recommended "best speed" settings otherwise.
Documentation suggests throughput can be improved with bonding, but no explanation of how to set it up to achieve higher throughput is offered.

Any suggestions on how to solve the audio dropout problem?

Thanks

I'm starting to catch on here. -- dude, you're farged. Go buy a real router.

Ath0 is the physical 2.4ghz radio interface. This cannot be changed. The radio transmits on that band.

Ath1 is the physical 5ghz radio interface. This also cannot be changed.

Bonding is likely referring to using double channel on the 2.4 ghz band under 802.11n. This is set up in the interface as 'n' only and using 40mhz 'turbo' mode.

Important thing here is that your client has to also do this for you to push 40mhz. Also, this takes up most of the 2.4ghz band. If you have a neighbor closer than 100 yards away, you will be trampling each other's signals if they have a wireless router on 2.4ghz. Which a lot of people do.

So your TV's wireless adapter is the wild card. Can it do concurrent Dual Band, or can it even operate on 5ghz at all? Is there any configuration settings on the TV itself?

After much research and experimentation, I have identified the culprit. It is the Samsung Netflix smart app. It has audio out problems depending on system configuration. For me, changing the audio format to DTS Neo 2:5 solved the problem the way I wanted it solved. Other solutions included switching to the TV's internal speaker or connecting to Netflix using a different device (X-Box 360). Thanks for the support.
