: Access Restrictions on Shared Folders - Linkstation Live LS-CHL
: Sidney17 December 19, 2009, 04:08:26 AM

I have just bought the Linstation Live LS-LCHL 500GB and am having problems with access restrictions on shares.

The Linkstation is running Firmware 1.10 and was bought in December 2009

My PC is running Windows 7 Professional and I am on a workgroup using a broadband router.

Mapping of drives works perfectly when no access restrictions are in place.

I have created an account with the same name as on the Windows 7 box and same password and then gone in and set access restrictions on a share.

Shared Folder Attributes are Read&Write

Shared Folder Support  is Windows & Apple.

When I map the drive I get read only access.

Can any one help?

Thanks

Try updating the firmware (1.21), disconnecting from the mapped folders and reboot your computer.

Thanks, I thought I had the latest with only just buying it. I will give it a go and let your know how I get on.

I have now upgraded to 1.21 and get the same message. I can map to the drive and read from it but can't write. I have now also tried this from Windows Vista.

The access controls must be working because if I map the drive and then use a wrong username or password then it won't give access and prompts me that the password is incorrect.

It looks like it sets read only no matter my choice.

Further development is that following the firmware update I can no longer create web shares. When I enter the details I get an error message that is blank.

Make sure the folder does not have the attribute to read only but read and write. When you set user access restrictions, set the attribute per user for either read only or read/write. I had this issue where the folder was set to read only and the user set to read/write and still could not write. Perhaps this is a bug? Can someone confirm?

This has been fixed by the accepted solution and by the help of Buffalo support which has been outstanding.

My issue was a problem between user and keyboard! :robothappy:

The way the display came up didn't show that I had to set individual permissions. There was only the user name in the access list. A bit of scrolling and screen manipulation has sorted that.

I have also sorted out the web share issue by choosing a new name.

Thanks for the help.
