: HD-HSU2 with Linux auto spindown
: Ianex September 27, 2008, 03:19:56 PM

I have HD-HSU2 and small linux based firewall&router.

Is it possible to set up so that after some time of inactivity the HD-HSU2 will be spinned down or switched of and on new activity goes on.

brgds

At this time Buffalo does not have that option included in the Firmware.

   Have you tried using hdparm?

I have not, most of buyers are from a Windows and Mac environment.  But from what I am reading about it, there shouldn't be an issue.

Solved by using Spindown daemon from:

http://code.google.com/p/spindown/

Also from there I learn correct command for spinning down (at least for my Buffalo drive station external disk):
sg_start --stop /dev/sdb1

Note: This is good only for external HD, that you don't use frequently. Too often spindowns/ups will short life of your HD.
