: Drivestation Quattro - RAID 5 - Failed Drive
: schrosa January 01, 2009, 05:24:12 PM

Hi,

I have a Drivestation Quattro (2TB).  Drive 1 failed (I know this because it's light blinked red and the drive would shut down).

I purchased a new drive of similar attributes, 500gb, EIDE, 7200 RPM.

I installed the drive and turned the machine on (per instructions from tech support via phone).  I supposed to wait for the drive to rebuild the data.  This is supposed to happen automatically.  Perhaps after 6 hours the drive should be restored and back to normal.  BTW, my drive was about 85% full.

Now the drive is on, and the light for Drive 1 is blinking red . . . and the machine isn't shutting down.  This is (overall) a good sign as the drive was shutting down earlier.

It doesn't SOUND like the drive is rebuilding.  By this, I mean I don't feel like I'm hearing alot of hard drive activity.  Is that normal?

If anyone has replaced a drive and/or rebuilt RAID, please let me know your thoughts.

OK, apparently it worked like a charm and it appears I have all my data.  WAY COOL.
