: Linkstation Mini and attached USB-drive - very slow rate of copy - why?
: chuggydk December 30, 2008, 12:13:04 PM

Hi from Germany,

I've attached my Linkstation Mini to the router, no sweat at all.

Now I want to copy all my files from my PC via an external USB-HDD to the Linkstation because I thought, this would be at USB 2.0 speed. But it isn't. It's slower than copying via the WiFi network. It copies files only with 400-500 KB/sec, even in the NASNavigator Windows (Drag&Drop).

I have more file-types than multimedia, so the DirectCopy is not an option.

Do I do something wrong? Or what could be the problem?

Kind regards and a happy new year,

Frank

What is the model number and firmware version that you are running?

Productname LS-WS1.0TGL/R1

Hostname LS-WSGL5F9

Firmware 1.04

I've made a workaround and attached my USB-drive to my laptop, connected it via LAN-Cable to the router and started copying - max speed 5 MB/sec.

While trying to update to firmware 1.05 the program (LSUpdater.exe) hangs up under Vista 32bit.

Regards,

Frank

Problem solved, I really don't know what the problem was.

It appears that attaching and de-attaching USB-devices is not very stable with the Linkstation.

I've attached a USB 2.0 stick and copying took place with satisfying speed. Now my USB-HDD runs with the same speed, originally I had a USB extension cable, maybe this was the problem.
