: Swapping firmware on Japanese WZR-HP-G450H
: blutopia May 05, 2012, 03:18:34 AM

I'm living in Japan right now and picked up a Buffalo WZR-HP-G450H the other day because I noticed there's an english firmware available on the North American website. My thought was to hook it up, fumble around in the menus (I can't read Japanese) and find the firmware update option and replace the Japanese firmware with an English one.

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or if there's some kind of region lock on the router, but the firmware uploads 100%, a new page with some message written in Japanese shows up (presumabley saying the firmware is being updated) and the router goes offline for a few minutes. When it comes back up and I try to login, it's still on the Japanese 1.85 firmware. I've tried updating to both the US 1.85 firmware as well as the DD-WRT  firmware with no luck.

Any thoughts on how I might get this to work? Thanks in advance!

Don't think it's possible. I live in Japan too, got my 300NH from ebay to avoid the hassle. Had the same problem in the past with Buffalo's G54S router.

Not sure what Buffalo policy on language is, but some products are multilingual, others are not.

It is possible but it will void your warrenty as you have to open the router up to get a uboot terminal session going.
