: WBMR-HP-GNV2 - Issues
: edinburgh December 15, 2011, 10:36:13 AM

Hello All

Bought a wbmr-hp-gnv2, but noticed several performance issues - I wonder if someone would clarify whether it's mine or not. So:

1. Random disconnections

This router randomly disconnects the Internet - I've no idea whether it's the problem with the PPPoA or something, but a TP-Link 8960 router doesn't do that.

2. Client monitor

Sometimes, depite being wirelessly connected, my Macbook is not seen in the Client Monitor.

3. Firmware upgrade

Whenever I choose 'upgrade firmware live' I get a message 'No Internet connection', despite being connected to the Internet.

Please share your experience.

Thanks.

I am having exactly the same issues.  I can successfully connect to DSL and my service provider but I intermittently (within 20 mins) lose the connection and the router generally fails to reconnect.  I have tried a number of hardware solutions (changing filters, unplugging the phone etc) but once a connection has been lost it seems the only way to rectify the problem is to restart the router.

I had hoped there was a firmware update that would fix the problem but I have had the same experience of the on-line updater.

I'm giving this another day or two and then sending the router back.

Hi Andy

There is a similar post on plusnet's website describing problems with this router (http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,98806.0.html) and there was one (a review) on ebuyer's website (http://www.ebuyer.com/279346-buffalo-airstation-wireless-n-highpower-adsl-modem-router-wbmr-hp-gnv2-eu), but they took it down.

I've sent mine back as faulty (currently under investigation) and got a new one, TPLink 8960 (Amazon), as well and so far there's no synch issues.

It's a great shame as I really like Buffalo products and this router was perfect for me with its energy saving features.

I've also read here http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,78341.0.html

that changing settings to PPPoE and LLU may help. As I don't have my Buffalo at the mo, I can't test this.

Best

Would someone pls notify the engineers in Japan about these problems to get a firmware update - it looks like this is not an isolated case.

Other issues that bother me:

- no daylight saving option to correct the summer vs. winter time

- no way of selecting authentication type (chap etc)

- pressing the aoss button to wake up the router screws up the eco mode - the router doesn't follow it until a reboot is done.

Thanks.

Yup, this's certainly seems to be a serious bug. For anyone else that runs across this thread, in at least my case the Internet status says "Disconnecting Phase" forever even if you disconnect and reconnect. The only thing that solves the issue is manually restarting the router. I'll try to find an email address for Buffalo but I will be returning my router.

Sad face.

dunno what provider you're with (i'm with virgin national) but try changing settings from 'pppoa' to 'pppoe' and from 'vc-mux' to 'llc (snap).' it doesn't drop pppoa sessions anymore.

: Re: WBMR-HP-GNV2 - Issues
: edinburgh January 01, 2012, 05:59:28 PM

OK. I got a replacement router (completely new) and there are similar problems to the ones I had before, except that the 'Live update firmware' feature now works. So to reiterate:

1. Frequent disconnections, regardless whether the settings are set to PPPoA (VCMUX) or PPPoE (LLC).

2. Wireless clients appear lost (after some time) in the Wireless Monitor - see my photos above.

3. No daylight saving feature, resulting in the wrong time in the summer.

4. Pressing AOSS when the ECO mode (wireless off) is on brings the router out of sleep, but then the router needs to be rebooted for the ECO mode to follow it again.

5. TXBurst feature is neither described in the help (right hand pane) nor in the manual.

6. Problems with DHCP - clients connecting to the router often get an address assigned already to another client resulting in conflict (after they've been awaken from the sleep mode).

7. 'Check connection' doesn't work with my ISP provider (I'm unable to test it with other providers) - I always get a message that there is neither PPPoA nor PPPoE server to be found - see photos above.

So, until the above issues are addressed my Buffalo is going back to its box.

i have eight   (8)  WBMR-HP-GNV2  purchased last month  with same  trouble...

The symptom is the LAN connection freeze.. lost internet connection... reboot clears the trouble..

I am using  several  different  IPcameras  on BUFFALO  WBMR-HP-GNV2 port 4  to CAT5 camera

The cameras have periodic   DDNS - WAN-IP  whatsmyIP,com  ((( updates change of ISP camera

address)))..  The updates respond SUCCESS if the local ISP has not cahanged the WAN IP address

of IPcamera...

I notice at  random  one day to seven  days? The  ISP services change WAN IP address to cameras...

I notice IPcamera   informs at this time, updates  DDNS service point to new IPcamera ISP WAN

address...

About  this  time, at random,  Buffalo WBMR-HP-GNV2  disconnect from internet ISP and

kills  access to LAN ports...

I can only work, ONE local, not on LAN network computer, can not see LAN attached camera or

LAN attached computer or  connect to administer the Buffao  WBMR-HP-GNV2 router... All the

connections to WBMR-HP-GNV2 are lost until I power on off the WBMR-HP-GNV2 or the camera

or the other computer...  changing computer changing  cameras  are  no  help.. same  trouble..

Reboot the power and all LAN  attached IP are working visible  until  the above   DDNS mismatch and

update starts again...

I not understand why the local LAN ports on the Buffalo  WBMR-HP-GNV2 router freeze up...

The Buffalo WBMR-HP-GNV2 should keep LAN  alive to perform administration control service..

However all connection to the Buffalo WBMR-HP-GNV2 from the 4 port LAN  are  dead  lost

all attached  LAN devices fall off are not connected...  The problem  can be resolved

either  power  on  off  the Buffalo WBMR-HP-GNV2   router...   or  for  example  power  on  off  on  the IP

camera..

It may be a DDNS  update  delay  problem  or Buffalo time out delay problem  or  loss of  next  action

software instruction steps.. to receive next software step ...  a  timeout  sending Buffalo router  to freeze

up all local LAN..  LAN not respond to connected powered  LAN  devices   Make no difference if LAN

is assigned  static  or  DHCP  priority  or  MAC  selected LAN  address

*****************************************************************************************************************

I have eight brand new Buffalo routers and several different cameras  along with different locations also

different ISP and DDNS paid  services.. I am trying to use cameras to show property rentals..  So I do

need a dependable ADSL connection to broadcast IPcamera property details  24/7...

At present I must travel to each camera  and power cycle the Buffaloa WBMR-HP-GNV2 turn on LAN

to  regain  camera  services..

BUFFALO support  has no ideas what I am talking about

I noticed a firmware update to version 1.01  (repair ping  issue)  I begin testing last week

i know it's pathetic. let us know how you get on withwith the new firmware.

if the new firmware doesn't improve things, i'd say, sell your routers on ebay or send them back to buffalo to deal with their crraappy product.

i got rid of mine and i'm happy. never again buffalo. sorry.

Hi

So far only one  camera  need  reboot  the  router...  out  of  eight   using  new firmware

update from BUFFALO  (resolve ping  issues)

I know  this  may  be  stupid   questions....  however    why  not  ask  one  more  time...

Who is  or  better yet  where  are the technical  support  people  responsible  for BUFFALO

new firmware   release  updates...  The  people  who cut and paste the  code  the  firmware

If its JAPAN  the link broke... I would be  willing  to  forward  BETA  TEST  to these people

to help them  think.. To help wake solutions...  The BUFFALO trouble  issues on the network

using BUFFALO routers...

Customers in trouble need  somebody answer...   Willing to wait answer...   SOLUTIONS

i don't know mate. it'd be a good idea to have a sumbission form to send all bugs. buffalo support in the uk is pathetic.

anyway, i ditched my buffalo for a tp-link router and it's absolutely fab. it's cheap and it's based on a broadcom chipset and it's so much better! if you're in europe, amazon.co.uk will send you them for free, providing that the total comes up to at least 25 quid (you need to select amazon.co.uk as a seller). here's the link:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TD-W8960N-300MBPS-Wireless-connections/dp/B0031SUB4S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335427265&sr=8-1

: Re: WBMR-HP-GNV2 - Issues
: banker April 26, 2012, 10:02:22 PM

today  good  morning.....  two  IP camera dead...

I had  to travel  to each  BUFFALO  router  location   and  power  down  power  up  REBOOT to get cameras

online..

The problem  is  the two  different  locations  the two different  ISP services....  The two  cameras  fall off

the BUFAL Local Area Network...   The  cameras   have  yellow  data  light   on  and  green  power light

on  indicating  CAT5  hard wire LAN  connection to the BUFFALO  router LAN port...

The BUFFALO  router LAN port  time out?   freeze?  does not KEEP ALIVE  the  wired LAN port connection...

So  the new  firmware (resolveping issues)  does not   resolve  the  LAN  KEEP ALIVE connection....

I do want to trash 8  eight  new  BUFFALO routers with  NO TECH  SUPPORT  even when BUFFALO

is at fault  destroy  my  real estate  rental  business... A good  attorney wants  facts  what is and who is

the trouble  maker creting  my  business lost...

As long  as BUFFALO  tech  support  use   smoke  and mirrors,  refuse to reply.  refuse to answer, it

may be BUFFALO  does  not  want to make  statement that may  incriminate a software mistake   or

it  may be they have people  with little  education to support   customer problem trouble

A good  strong business  always   reply  and  look  for  answers to customer problems...

seriously for your mission critical work why risk using the buffalo router/modems?  i use draytek adsl routers and even the tp-link td-w8960n is a very good option for business use. very reliable.

yes, we do. it says in the post guidlines on the main page. nevertheless, there are no such fora in the uk, otherwise we'd be using them. also, you might have the power/willingness to notify those guys in japan about the problems we've had with those buffalo routers sold in europe. that would be very kind of you anyway. at the moment, we're sold products that ain't working properly.

BUFFALO    is a  business that  takes  the  money  from  Interbational customers and pockets the money  the same as USA  customers  who pay....  In  the USA  credit  and  exchange  or  REFUND of cash is simple done every day...

The army of attorneys funded by USA  customers  make sure  simple REFUNDS are simple

Outside the USA BUFFALO pockets the money of customers  that pay non regulated agents or mom  pop stores that are authorized by BUFFALO to perform  sales and services...  Outside the USA BUFFALO products are at the mercy

of local stores operated by  mom  and pop or stores operated by people with zero responsibility of technical skills..

The stores get their  33%  prfit  and point to FACTORY SUPPORT  outside the USA....

treetOK?  so you buy an American product name in the USA  assembled by ? Japan and then left on the street

facing support  monkeys who can not support BUFFALO factory problems...

The answer is simple  the  monkeys  at BUFFALO shoul establish a direct factory  customer service response

and not authorize international agents who do not help the international customer... They only take the money

and make the sale...

I AM SURPRISED BUFFALO NOT LIABLE FOR INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMER TROUBLE CORRESPONDENCE

HOWEVER SINCE  THE REST OF THE INTERNATIONAL WORLD HAS NO POLICE WITH ARMY OF ATTORNEYS THE PRIVILEGE OF REFUNDS AND SUPPORT REMAIN INSIDE THE USA

A good  strong business  always   reply  and  look  for  answers to customer problems...

Hello Banker

Please provide the FW revision you are using, and the country in which the product was purchased.

Provide the contact information of the support you contacted, and the ISPs you are using (all additional information about them, as they are outside the USA and unknown to us, will be helpful)

If you can provide logs that occurred right before the disconnects, that is important as well,

Thank you,

Ok I understand where you are going with this problem using  8  WBMR-HP-GNV2 - Issues routers....It would make no sense to reiterate this problem is and was created by the software employee who is or was responsible coding the BUFFALO firmware...  This is not a country or location of purchase issue..  The local

people who sold the  WBMR-HP-GNV2 - Issues are inside ASIA...  Thailand

These people have no skills have no knowledge to software code new firmware that has failed at random...

You have stated asthe Administrator that you havedirect access to the factory inside JAPAN and that you can deliver the  WBMR-HP-GNV2 - Issues trouble to the people who understand what or why the LAN stop..   IT MAY BE A SIMPLE  TTL time out or other timer  relevant issue that freezes the router....

Local sales people do not understand  WBMR-HP-GNV2 - Issues firmware software and can only

deliver a lot of noise up the distribution chain entering back to the factory software support section..

If you want to head in another direction and assist with the cost of refunding 8 routers along with

additional expenses to replace a small business operation then we can work on attorneys to solve

the defective software issue...

You do not consider how many of these NEW routers are sold every day and you do not consider

the application of Dynamic  Domain Name Server with static IP camera feeds...

This is not a general me too router application installation...  The KEY word is DDNS IPcamera

continuous video streaming router application....  Only a handful of people understand what we are

talking about...  not to mention firmware software timers...  step by step parsing protocals...

Can you open the eye of the BUFFALO sleeping giant and call the correct factory boys to respond???

hiya dr memory

can i just say that i've experienced disconnections, too - i'm based in the uk. however, as i got rid of my buffalo router (wbmr-gp-gnv2) i'm unable to confirm whether they continue or not with the new firmware. it appears to me that there's a problem with the router sending an echo signal to the exchange (BritishTelecom exchange, which in the UK is the owner of the whole telephone network) to check if the router is still online.

thanks.

: Re: WBMR-HP-GNV2 - Issues
: banker May 05, 2012, 12:47:04 AM

These routers are relative NEW product sales outside the USA.. The firmware is listed as the

WBMR-HP-GNV2 and the language is clear English...  I see one other user having same problem

in the United Kingdom//

There is and there are very small difference inside the router firmware..  The international use of routers and protocals are universal code used to keep the internet hardware talking...

You must stop looking for foreign firmware trouble beyond the applicatin of foreign language to talk toWBMR-HP-GNV2

the router... problem is that the router LAN freezes... the router LAN  data freezes..  no further communication on the LAN is possible... So please do not deviate away from the exact trouble

description...  The firmware  WBMR-HP-GNV2  has no "WATCHDOG" code that others use to

recover, reset, reboot, from hardware software ERROR...

The router operates NORMAL as a simple four port N150 WBMR-HP-GNV2 router for mom and

pop home customers...   HOWEVER the WBMR-HP-GNV2 has advanced application used by a

few customers... to PORT FORWARD video audion hardware attached to the WBMR-HP-GNV2

LAN ports...  Now if the Audio Video Voip hardware has embeded Dynamic Domain Name Server

firmware that periodicaly updates the customers WAN IP address then here is where the BUFFALO

router has trouble...

Maybe it is short instead of long TTL  or overload from repetitive DDNS request waiting for a

successful update...  I have software disconnected NTS time update and switched from DDNS

services testing for a FAIL LAN pattern,,,

The LAN stops at random,,,  I observe the most critical times of FAILURE is on the hour at the

time of updating a WAN IP that was changed by the ISP... I log the new WAN IP address after

the BUFFALO is RESET REBOOT

When I arrive at a dead camera FEED location I see the YELLOW LAN LED dim rapid blinking

and have no access to the BUFFALO router LAN frozen until reset

: Re: WBMR-HP-GNV2 - Issues
: banker May 05, 2012, 01:03:27 AM

ONE OTHER MAJOR ISSUE SINCE YOU TALK ABOUT INTERNATIONAL FIRMWARE

WBMR-HP-GNV2 has only TWO USA embedded DDNS service providers locked inside what you reference as INTERNATIONAL...   There are hundreths of INTERNATIONAL DDNS services out

of the USA and can not be entered into the BUFFALO WBMR-HP-GNV2 router

You may ask JAPAN to use parts of the TOMATO firmware and permit TRUE INTERNATIONAL

use of the BUFFALO WBMR-HP-GNV2 router advanced capability...

I do not understand WHY United Kingdom or Thailand or JAPAN is forced to use United States Of

America DDNS paid business providers...   OPEN the BUFFALO WBMR-HP-GNV2 firmware and

let customer ENTER other then USA solicited paid DDNS service providers....

This does put another fallacy behind international firmware secrets that are adjusted using

plain old ENGLISH MENU forcing USA paid service subscriptions...  LOOK at DDNS MENU

in the BUFFALO WBMR-HP-GNV2 router

TOMATO was a BUFFALO firmware that permit older very old routers from LINK sys to open

access control menu...

I am not sure if all people who read this trouble with BUFFALO router do understand what is

the purpose of using DDNS MENU embedded inside BUFFALO routers  mdel WBMR-HP-GNV2

and locked between  TZO.com   and DyNDNS.com  USA  service provider subscriptions

This web link from CISCO routers explains DDNS

I am conversing back and forth with the Support/Quality management in Japan, and have sent them all the details, including logs of the issue with the disconnection amnd the other issue with embedded DDNS service providers and that you can't update this to use any of the hundreds on other internation DDNS services outside the USA.

They will be investigating this and I will forward information to you, as I get it.

THANK YOU       THANK  YOU          THANK YOU        DOMO  ARRIGATO  JAPAN

This is the best news I receive since the purchase and installation of eight BUFFALO WBMR-HP-GNV2 routers...   Since the last message I was forced to travel to 3 three locations to rset power to the BUFFALO WBMR-HP-GNV2 router..

At each location the LAN is frozen...  unable to connect a laptop to the BUFFALO WBMR-HP-GNV2 router to view error logs...   The power light for the CAT5 attached camera is good and the yellow DATA light blinks rapidly dim...

Please advise BUFFALO JAPAN,  I am willing and able to test BEAT firmware and able to send TEST

results...  because I preffer SOLUTIONS not EMOTIONS...  over Emotions no Solution..

Pleaseadvise BUFFALO JAPAN  to consider a software WATCHDOG added to firmware to REBOOT

or RESET software loop freezing the LAN...  The LAN should remain ONLINE under all conditions

to maintain attached hardware DATA TRANSFFER connections assigned to seperate isolated LAN IP address...  At this time all 4 ports are frozen unable to communicate when trouble starts...

I have left one laptop at the camera location... The laptop has CISCO NETWORK MAGIC software that can display the picture of the connected network....  The picture shows that the LAPTOP was disconnected from the LAN NETWORK ...   POWER CYCLE THE BUFFALO ROUTER reset the laptop to original LAN address and also the IPcamera start at the assigned LAN address as the

BUFFALO WBMR-HP-GNV2 router connects DSL and connect INTERNET the CISCO map of the

network is completed working....   UNTIL THE TROUBLE STARTS AGAIN

Hello,

Support is asking:

As our tech person's suggestion, the loopback may happen in user's LAN network so the user can't access to the LAN network through the Internet.

It looks like LAN network or the router freezes.

He said the symptom recovers when he reboot one of the devices such as the router, the computer or the IP camera.

So if possible, we would like him to test connect only one devices in the LAN network with the router, WBMR-HP-GNV2, and check if the symptom may happen or not.

Not sure there are any person in the LAN network to add some devices, but do not connect any devices while checking for the symptom.

iN RESPONSE TO THE lan LOOP issue

This morning at one of eight camea locations

The BUFFALO   WBMR-HP-GNV2 - router shows RED light on INTERNET CONNECTION

WBMR-HP-GNV2 -

SIMPLE REPAIR    DISCONNECT POWER FROM BUFFALO WBMR-HP-GNV2 router

reconnect power to BUFFALO WBMR-HP-GNV2 -

Everything BOOT UP  BACK TO NORMAL

There is nothing on the EIGHT BUFFALO WBMR-HP-GNV2  ROUTER LAN other than IPcamera connection... This error is the FIRMWARE TROUBLE that was NEGLETED, UNTESTED by the

BUFFALO quality control software...

The IPcamera operated this time three days with no error.... After three days THIS IP camera location was down... The Buffalo Router disconnected from the INTERNET.. IT SHOW A RED LIGHT

for INTERNET...  A simple power RESET only to the BUFFALO ROUTER repaired the problem..

IS IT TOO MUCH OF A PROBLEM TO CODE           W_A_T_C_H_D_O_G     routine into the

firmware to RESET the BUFFALO router ????

THE IP CAMERAS EIGHT BUFFALO ROUTERS USE DDNS SERVICES TO HOLD A WAN IP
LOOK UP... The BUFFALO ROUTER HAS DEFFECTIVE CODE...  To make this three day test  the  NIST TIME  look up was  DISABLED  and DHCP lease time was SET 9999...

JAPAN must wake up to the FACTS the time delays inside the FIRMWARE are no good... The

quality monitor of LAN traffic is not available to stop ERRORS

UNDER ALL CONDITIONS OF GOOD LAN ATTACHED WORKING HARDWARE

A ROUTER SHOULD NEVER KILL THE LAN FREEZE THE INTERNET NO EXCUSES

THE LAN HARDWARE MUST STAY  OPEN ACTIVE ON  ALL  PORTS  AS  MULTIPLEXED

THE PORTS MUST STAY ACTIVE SCANNED NEVER FREEZE UP

BUFFALO ROUTER NO GOOD FREEZES UNDER SOFTWARE DELAYS

CAN NOT RESET THERE IS NO WATCHDOG  SOFTWARE MONITOR

Banker, did you call the thailand phone support to resolve this before asking on the forums? Or, what Buffalotech support did you contact (phone/email, what number or email address), before coming to these forums? What you need is direct support, rather than going back and forth on the forums.

: Re: WBMR-HP-GNV2 - Issues
: banker May 24, 2012, 05:05:46 AM

Hello   DIRECT is what I try to connect...

These monkeys have no support  these monkeys fabricate excuses that are made up to delay answers....   These monkeys are the BUFFALO SUPPORT PAID  and refuseto contact te factory

Hey is it too much to figure out that a decent HONEST factory would try to resolve customer trouble .. These factory support people get paid to ignore the customer they are too stupid to work on a customer problem...  They pray the product trouble go away or the customer fades away dead after having no response...

HEY you call this a technical solution to a product problem? %^$&^#$# is there any people out there that use this product as a web server?  a camera server?  a DVD server?  where are the

people who bought this product and can not use DDNS that was built inside this product ...

READ ALL THE WASTED TIME TRYING TO GET HELP FROM USA PRINTED FACTORY SUPPORT AND WARRANTY MANUALS...  why sales international go back to usa..  is BUFFALO in business or on the way out???   Why build all this hatred over several months of stu[id monkey support response to the facts described explixit over several months...

HEY where do you want to go? What do you do?  Trash eight routers because the factory do not give a **bleep** to answer a customer in trouble?  Thw factory is JAPANESE or USA they have no intelligent answer and do not have educated support to answer...  Wher you want to go with these monkeys after several months of see nothing  hear nothing   do othing...  The monkeys have never asked if the battery was installed backwards... OK OK  fok all this... i am out of here..

Hey banker, why don't you STFU and contact the support from where you purchased the routers to support and correct the issue. I'm getting pretty sick of reading YOUR ALL CAPS POSTS. It gets boring after a while!

You have been told one more than one occasion that this router is not sold in the US and these are US only
Forums!

The admins and mods have tried there best to help but there is only so much they can do!

Banker,

BT Japan Support has been trying to contact you, using the email address you supplied here.

They have a patch written for your WBMR and the issue being experienced.

Is there a better email address for them to contact you?

If so, please email me the info at drmemory@buffalotech.com
