: Disk Write Sector Errors every week
: 0x221e June 15, 2012, 05:57:47 PM

I purchased a Linkstation Pro Duo WVL/R1 over here in Sydney, Australia and a week after its purchase it began spamming me with

    HDD error occured.

Disk(s) the error occured: "Disk X".

    (sda) WRITE sector:xxxx count:xxx

    Disk writing error
Some data may not be recoverable.
Immediate change of disk is recommended.

Despite 2 hard drive replacements for each bay. This has occured each week (coinciding with scheduled RAID checks).

Quite annoyed, I returned the product for replacement and received a brand new one (1 month into the original purchase).

However: The issue still exists. I am still getting Write Sector error emails continuously.

My own troubleshooting so far:

  1. The drives work fine on a Windows PC when reformatted to NTFS and passed a battery of testing (including Seagates' SeaTools software itself)
  2. The disks I've tried were 6 x 2TB Seagate Barracudas purchased on separate occasions at different shops and configured to RAID 1.
  3. The drives are A-okay on the compatability list
  4. I have upgraded to the latest firmware as well (V1.58)
  5. I have not put it under any stress besides keeping it in Auto power mode

I've rebuilt the array a countless number of times, and I cannot rely on this device rendering its purchase useless.

I still like what the device still offers and before I complain + refund, I'd like to use up all available options.

Could someone please offer me any advice on how to troubleshoot this? I shall be eternally greatful!

Update: it's started reporting errors on external USB drive as well now...
